Prodive/Performance Diver/Euro Cylinders and Nitrox

Postby AndrewRawlingson » Sun Sep 09, 2012 8:16 pm

I'm gradually learning about cylinder regulations in NZ!

What is the score with Prodive/Performance Diver/Euro Cylinders and nitrox? The guys in Performance Diver said their 15 L cylinders were approved for nitrox, but the 10s and 12s weren't because the paper work wasn't completed at the time of import.

What I really want to know is whether I would be able to get one of their 15s filled with nitrox, nothing too fancy, just mixes to 36% or so.

Also, just out of interest:
- Do you need a nitrox sticker for nitrox fills?
- Couldn't any cylinder be O2 cleaned for nitrox fills?

Thanks :)

Well if they are approved then yes you can get up to 40% put in them.

Yes you are required to have a nitrox sticker on the tank to have it filled with nitrox.

Yes any cylinder can be cleaned for nitrox ( or even O2) use. But the question is it approved for nitrox/O2? Well thats no even the question. The question is will the dive shop fill it regardless?

We have some pretty stupid regulations here. Burst disks, 2 yearly hydros etc.

Personally I never really bothered with Nitrox except as a deco gas. At $20 per fill ($40 for doubles) it just costs too much.
Ironically every dive is now a nitrox dive and costs less ( disregarding the original equipment cost)

There are certain requirements about the size, font and shade of green for the stickers. Probably best if you just buy them from who ever fills your tanks. But expect to pay a premium for "just a sticker"
My self I am on the look out for O2, DIL and TX stickers.

I have a couple of these if you want Packy.

No good for anyone using a "by the letter" shop but if you are blending yourself they do a fine job.

Yes, I believe some of the 15 L cylinders are "approved" for Nitrox.

I refuse to cover any of my cylinders with any of this rubbish. I will only mark my cylinders according to the GUE standards, as I believe this is the most sensible and safest method. Listen to the presentation by Leigh Bishop about Carl Spencer's unfortunate demise...

I have never had any issues getting fills at any decent diving center using this marking system. Also I only O2 "clean" cylinders that will have mixes above 40% in them - everywhere I get fills uses continuous flow blending, so it is not an issue.
