I was wondering if anyone can give advice where to purchase Vyper USB Cable online in NZ and/or Battery replacement kit. Thanks

Batteries should be user replaceable.... I think they are a CR2460, but easiest way to check is just open it up and have a look. The o-ring should be good for a number of changes of the battery, it would normally just need a tiny amount of silcone grease on it.... hence no real need to buy the "replacement kit". Check the Suunto website for battery changing instructions, if you don't fancy it then your local dive shop will do it for you.

I doubt any NZ retailers will sell a download cable online - the Suunto wholesaler is Aquanaut, so any shop that stocks there kit would be able to source one for you. Where abouts are you based? Try Global Dive, link above or give Andrew a call on 09 920 5200.

There never used to be an 'offical' Suunto USB cable that worked with the Vyper, the only USB cable available had a plug which fitted the wristwatches.
However, it does appear that Suunto now have one for the Vyper et al. (I think it might have been released along with the VyperII). It wont be cheap though.

You could also check out CustomIdeas Suunto USB Cable
One of my buddies has this, and finds it works well.
I keep meaning to get one myself so I can use it on my Mac's.

Yeah have just been quoted $295 for the cable in NZ, that is just ridiculous. Defianlty be going with the Custom Ideas cable have read good things about it, I have been in contact with http://www.divingniknaks.co.uk and he posts to NZ. Phil is also on Skype which means you get great service and answers straight away. NZ websites need to get with it !

What's the connector for the Vyper?

I've got a cable for my old Cobra that I don't use. If you're interested, I can post it to you to try. It's RS232 rather than USB, though.

I guess a new one, landed in NZ from overseas would be what.... $120? How about $60, then?

To be honest, I gave up using the cable as it's just a pain in the ar$e! There's nothing wrong with the cable, just the connector to the computer always seems to be unreliable and it drops connections all the time and so forth.

I'll send it down and you can try it, if it's too frustrating or not what you want then you can send it back!
