Vertical Blue and Will Trubridge - 102m CNF

Postby Phantom Menace » Fri Nov 28, 2014 11:00 pm

You will have probably seen ads from a certain beer company and some media spots promoting William Trubridges attempt to break his no fins depth world record (currently 101m). This is part of the competition he organises each year at Deans Blue Hole.

The Head of Safety is another Kiwi - Jono Sunnex and one of the safety divers is Auckland Freediving Club member and Olympic / Commonwealth Games swimming legend Moss Burmester. Jonno is the 11th deepest man on the planet.

Check out this clip from VB2014 focussing on the safety aspects ... http://youtu.be/8idl8mw3WfU

Moss is also posting insights on his web sight (mossburmester.co.nz) and that,as well as other info, is here: http://www.freediving.co.nz/will-trubridge-102m/

I was disappointed with the result.
Not for myself, but for will, It is an amazing feat to get that depth, and needing assistance to surface or not, he accomplished something that us mortal beings can only aspire to.

The limits of human endurance are being pushed all the time, and someday the 101m will no doubt be broken, but it wont be done quickly, and it will, im sure, take an exceptional athlete such as Will to be equal to the task.

Well done to Will and team.

I cant think of anything more relaxing, than being in the downunder, breathing some nice clean fresh filtered 21% nitrox.
