B17 wreck (and others)

Postby alijtaylor » Sun Jun 27, 2010 9:03 am

An excellent day out on Saturday. There was a visitor in from NZ and we wanted a good day out. Started with Bonegi 1 back through the long swim thru. First time I had lead all the way and was pleased to find the entry (and even more so the exit) without difficulty. This time I was shooting on iso 1600

Then up to Vislae for the the sub. We wanted to finish that dive with enough air to do a B17 Bomber in 12m on the way back so this was a shorter dive, but good viz and after reading on Nems1s reponse to my last Visale post - that you can explore the inside - we did just that.

The B17 was new for me. The wind has come up (this is windy season) and I found entry through the surf a bit of a struggle, but with mask on and reg in it wasn't major. The plane is great, the front and one wing is there, the tail and other wing appear to have broken off and could be anywhere.. The viz was only about 5 or 6m but still a great (if short) dive.

Whats the temp there this time of year, Alison?
My guess is around 22 degrees Celcius?

...funny, just about every 'Underwater Film Footage' I watched as a young'un, that nurtured my desire to follow-thru with eventual Scuba Diving - was all Tropical, and yet I've never dived Tropical.

My computer consistently reads 30C (others make it 29C) and it does not vary much at all during the year, maybe a degree.

Time you dived tropical! PNG is about the same.

The diving was fantastic, many thanks Alison, Fri / Sat I managed 4 dives before coming down with a head cold Sunday which didn't impress me. Lucky only a work trip, I will be back sometime !

Hi Graham
Didn't realise you were on here! It was a great to have an excuse to do something a little different. That b17 dive, short as it was rates as one of my favurites here.
