Diving Industry Association of Australia (D.I.A.A)

Postby Jason » Thu Nov 27, 2008 9:34 pm

The Diving Industry Association of Australia (D.I.A.A) is what is possibly to become an umbrella or 'peak body' representing Recreational Diving in Australia.
Wether this actually happens is another thing?
I know this isn't really 'New Zealand' stuff so forgive me, but it might be of 'close interest' to some.

What would New Zealanders think of an 'organisation' forming to represent Recreational Diving in NZ?
I mean, it can't be all that bad, afterall - this Forum represents NZ Divers ...and in a positive/productive way

Thanks for the compliment Vampie :D

We have the NZUA here http://www.nzunderwater.org.nz/, which represents NZ recreational divers (as well as the Diving industry, Snorkelling, Underwater Hockey, Spear fishing and recreational underwater fisherman to Government).

I haven't had much to do with them on a personal level but used them a fair bit when I was researching dive incidents in the south island as a journo. They have a heap of info and expertise, as they've been going for yonks (sorry not sure how long exactly!)

Hey, you guys have been doing this for yonks. Visited the site thanks DD and although there was some 'construction' going on there was enough to grab my attention - the 50 years of NZ Diving looks a good read.

The fact that such an entity does exist and for quite a while must be a plus-plus(++) for New Zealand Recreational

The Australian version, I believe, will run its course but fizzle out.

In all honesty I don't think they do anything for recreational divers in New Zealand.

They might prevent 'over-regulation' for Rec' Divers upon such issues as Nitrox?
