Postby Kate » Mon Jul 14, 2008 4:42 pm

:!: Limited recall of Apeks TX, ATX and XTX 2nd Stages :!:

This is limited to those 2nd stages/octopus purchased before July 2008 that have not undergone an authorised annual service.

It has come to our attention that an incorrectly assembled 2nd stage has been purchased. If you have an Apeks regulator or octopus that has never had an authorised annual service, regardless of how recently purchased, please take the regulator/octopus to your Apeks dealer to be visually inspected.
All Apeks dealers and distributors have been made aware of this issue.
Do not dive with the regulator until it has been visually inspected. If it is not possible for you to return the regulator for inspection then please contact Apeks’ Customer Service Department for assistance. Apeks apologises for any inconvenience this may cause. We are dedicated to making the world’s best diving products and ensuring diver safety at all costs.

Product : ATX/ XTX Regulators
SER NO: 701 0001 – 807 0001
Date : 26TH June 2008

Dear Customer,

It has come to our attention that ATX / XTX regulators produced between January 2007 and June 2008 could have a potentially serious defect.
The problem is related to the 2nd stage assembly of any XTX / ATX regulator, including any
XTX / ATX Stage 3 set and octopus which fall within the range of serial numbers 701 0001 and 807 0001.
It has come to our attention that the diaphragm cover (see diagram) may have been missed during the assembly of the 2nd stage and under certain conditions, this could allow the diaphragm to become displaced. This can be visually inspected through the front cover, but ideally the front cover should be removed to ensure the diaphragm cover is in place.
To enable us to provide you with a better service please report your findings together with the regulator serial numbers to the following email address info@apeks.co.uk
This is a worldwide recall. Apeks apologises for any inconvenience this recall might cause, but thank you in advance for your support in this matter. We are dedicated to making the world's best diving products and to ensure diver safety at all costs; this solution seems the only reasonable course of action.
Please contact the technical department if you need any assistance or have any further query.

Thanks for the info Kate.

That makes nervous reading for me (as I do have those regs / serial numbers) but have had them checked and then subsequently serviced. It doesn't take long and is well worth it for the piece of mind factor.
