Been to that spot many times in the past and never seen any at all.
Mind you I haven't been there for a couple of years now.

Warrior is a beautiful dive. Let me know if you are up that way between xmas and NYE.

Welcome to the forum.

What was the visibility at Shag like?

I am thinking about a quick swim round Waiheke / Shag / Ponui soon ish - take the family for a picnic, go for a free-dive, maybe tow people round for a water-ski etc. so not a full-on dive day but it WOULD be a full-on day.

Ah, the joys of dive shops where economics always wins.

Now, if only there were some good independent instructors around......

Well it would be harsh to say that. If you had a very good instructor then it is possible you have learnt a good skill set that is appropriate for the diving you wish to do. If you had a poor instructor then...

You need to make sure you don't become a course junkie. Do a lot of experiential dives or you will have no chance to consolidate skills before doing yet another course and you may risk becoming a diver who only feels confident in the company of instructors.

Dive with lots of different divers and consider other agencies for further learning.

Andy is a very good instructor in my opinion, there are many here who would agree.

Yeah - I knew a guy who went all the way through to PADI Dive Master having really only done a handful of non-course dives. I wouldn't have wanted him to DM anything.

Thanks BB but wont be and am not a dive course junkie ...... I've been diving a little while, mostly in the tropics but had never certified ..... dumb ..... really dumb ....... cause now I know how kamakazi I was!!. I had specific goals in mind when chosing my courses ....... I have a passion for diving wrecks so needed to do advanced to get deep certified ...... and am still going to do the wreck specialty sometime next year and then will start planning my overseas wreck trips .... Vanuatu is a goal so is PG and Samoa.

I've been fortunate to have had 2 great instructors ... Matt Shortall whom I believe is quite well known in dive circles and Brad Mcconnichie a youngster but very thorough so I'm please with my candy floss for now :D

I'll definately be diving many and varied and as much as I can .... have just acquired a RIB and have my Powerboating Level 1 cert ...... but unfortunately not the confidence to take it out yet (its mans work as far as I'm concerned) .... oh and dont have a towbar yet either .... Doh! but these things will come.

Nice. A little RIB like that will open up a huge amount of great dive sites.

Nice RIB, will be very happy to play Big Brother once the weather breaks and we can get something organised. Best I fix my fuel supply problems first though... don't really want to go out there with the spanners in the rain... I love diving, but I hate getting wet!
