Back again on SDNZ

Postby JasonVampireSquid » Thu Oct 18, 2012 9:17 am

Hi there NZ Divers,
Well its been a fair while since I was last on this cool (water) Forum.
Let me re-introduce myself.
My name is Jason. I am a very 'watery' person and enjoy Diving as an avenue to experience this element more so.
I live in Oz (across the ditch) but have ventured around NZ many a time be it just visiting Relo's or actually 'travelling' around. I've dived the Poor Knight Islands and the Lermontov with more to go I'm sure. I mostly dive the New South Wales southern coast south of Wollongong down to Eden, but since I've been living this past year out in the Riverina region - I've managed to do some Diving in South Australia and Victoria which are more accessible (still bloody long drives though!) now. I do hope to move to the NSW south coast in the near future though.
I've only got x150 dives under my sleeve but I think I can honestly say I've had Quality over Quantity easy!
I'm Adv & Enriched Air ...I love my 32-36% Nitrox.
My main dive buddies are: Daniel Glenn, Paul Daniels and Lee Ford - though I do often dive Solo as well.
My last solo dive I nearly got bitten by a Grey Nurse Shark which would have been sooooo cool because
women love scars more than Tatt's and I used to do Nursing too.
My Dream? Well, there's been plenty. I'll just mention one for now though: To own my own Submersible.
Anyway, its good to be back.

cheer's muchly,
Jason Cook

I cant think of anything more relaxing, than being in the downunder, breathing some nice clean fresh filtered 21% nitrox.

[Riverina weather report]
Last week it was snowing, few days ago it was sweltering 34C and in a few days ...snowing.

The Riverina is Australia's 'Food Bowl' and has 100 years of Irrigation fame. Canals are everywhere. Alas, they are muddy brown with -3cm viz (deduct space between eyes and mask) and dangerous in regards to 'suctioning' between sections, strong current and snakes. Some canals are dug to the size of 3-lane Freeways. I currently work for Sunrice Australia and there are rice fields aplenty out here. Of course Droughts can dry up even this region, but the area looks as green as the North Island with all the (La Nina) rains ...it even flooded for the first time in 42 years and the Canals certainly helped allieviate what would have been an immense floodplain which is common around most of Australia when it floods. Alas it didn't flood 'deep' enough for me to 'dive' anywhere.

Always Ali  :)
Best fish company I can have.

By the way - I loved my Diving in South Australia: x4 Great Whites over 5m in a cage to the music of AC/DC and Point Lowry for the Cuttlefish (alas, down in numbers considerably). Loved South Aust overall - felt like I fitted in there quite well.

Silver Sweep: Montague Island (Narooma, NSW). The Amphitheatre site. 10-11-12

...had many large Silver Sweep upon both dives - but was curious as to why so many Silver Sweep were packed like a baitball under a large overhang of rock? Was it because of all the Seals? Curiosity got the better of this fish and I moved slowly to see what all the fuss was about. I didn't see any reason as to why they were there, even when I realised my head was in amongst em all. It was a funny feeling having little tails flick my head. I dropped out of the condensed collection of Sweep and just thought "...maybe they just like that sort of thing and that's that?"
