Greenpeace Charitable status

Do you think Greenpeace is a charity? or political organisation? or promoter of illegal activity?

Looks like the courts think it is not a charity.

I had heard that there was a review ongoing with the charitable status in general. Possibly allowing the future more political advocacy for groups like Greenpeace or (in the context I originally heard about) Women's refuge. But this has been ongoing for at least a year already (and the big departmental shake up wouldn't help).

That would help them on the political advocacy side of things but not so much the illegal...

Personally I think a charity is a charity and a political advocacy organisation is not (regardless of whether I agree with the politics they are advocating or not).

If I feel strongly about a particular advocacy groups goals then I will donate to it regardless of whether it is tax deductable or not.
