CCR Computer

Postby ChuckyBob » Fri Jul 16, 2010 3:46 pm

Im now in the market for a new computer.
My main requirement is one that will read 3 O2 cells for CCR rebreather diving.
So far the options seem to be VRx, Shearwater, Liquidvision and then there is the new kid on the block.....The Furyo http://narkedat90.com/shop/department/ds/

Have not fully researched it yet but it seems to be priced very well and also have the coolest HUD I have ever seen!

There's also the DR5, but it's very pricey....

I have it's little brother, the OSTC if you wanted to look at it. It's got some nice features (has a setpoint mode, but no cell reading) but I don't think I would pay for the DR5.

Yeah, its a pity they dropped the cell reading off the OSTC MK2 other wise it would be a contender.

DR5 is way out of the price range.

The X1 is at a great new price now so looks not only a great computer but also a great price.! Talk to skip he has one now (not plugged into the unit though)

the open platform computers have a certain edge to them.

Shearwater and it would seem we have local support for when good computers go bad.I dont think that should be overlooked.

I only dive the Shearwater on OC at the moment....
But I can tell you its fabulous and the firmware updates that you can Bluetooth straight off your PC from the Shearwater website are excellent.
Bluetoothing your dives straight onto your PC Dive log is pretty damn cool as well..

And for the price I think its very competitive considering its a 5 gas mix capable unit...

I can add one more vote for the shearwater. I use it for both full CCR monitoring and all my twin OC diving.
If I lost it today I'd buy another one tonight without any hesitation. But then i've no dive experience with the others you've mentioned.
To date, I haven't been left wanting for anything more or different and found it exceptionaly easy to pick up and dive.

No its a second hand Pursuit.
I couldnt bring my self to part with 3K for a computer.
It can be upgraded to a Predator in the future but at this stage I will use it as is.

Well I took delivery of my Pursuit on Tuesday and dived it Wednesday. Today the Ir USB dongal turned up and I managed to down load the dives.

I must say this is the best dive computer and maybe the best dive computer PC software I have used yet.

Cant wait for my 3 cell cable to turn up!!
