Regulators for RBs

Postby Packhorse » Tue Sep 11, 2007 9:23 am

As I understand it RBs use standard 1st stage regulators.
I cant see any point in using a 1st will massive flow rates (like the MK20/25 scubapro), but is there any real benifit of using a balanced vs a non balanced reg since you are not really breathing from it as you would in OC?
Would it be better to just use a super simple, low parts and highly reliable unbalanced 1st stage instead like the SP MK2?

Good question.... I'm sure silentsolutions or pete will have an answer.

I would guess reliability is the main concern?

The Meg uses super simple, low parts and highly reliable balanced 1st stages - Apeks DS4s. The Inspo uses the similar Apeks DSTs from memory.
While I think I see what you're getting at, I don't think you need to use unbalanced 1sts to minimise perceived complexity.
You've also got to remember that RB 1sts will be required to supply OC gas in bailout situations.
