The easiest spot to cave dive in the South Island, that I know of, is Riwaka Resurgence. At the top of the South Island. There are a series of dry sumps with a max depth of 10 - 12metres. One thing to remember is that its cold...from memory it was 9 or 11...either way it was cold.

Their is the Pearse resurgence also.

Caves in NZ tend to go real deep real fast. Like 300 metres from the entrance you are hovering at 150 metres.
They are also isolated and you generally need to chopper in all your gear and camp on the side of mountains.

Can be done tho...Talk to Hoppy. He can help

I'm keen to do that sort of stuff :) Love to explore places that are hard to reach and dark and the best would be if no-one was there :D

Hey, neat. I have a personal messenging service :D
Hello from somewhere very tropical. Its a lovely day here today :)

Hybrid, nope, sorry dude, I havent.

Kymak, as I have mentioned to you on other forums, as far as I can establish, there are no easily accessable, divable, caves in NZ, other than that sump dive in the SI and various sea caves. Everything else that I know of requires a major mission to get to. If anyone knows of anything, then I would be there with bells on.

Also, havent heard from you regards getting together for a dive etc either.

It would probably be far cheaper to fly to Oz and go cave diving there.

Has info on some of the sites in Oz.

I am a member (albeit a new and inexperienced one) if anyone wants more info.

I'm sure that are caves around NZ that no one has dived before. Start looking for them. If people knew about them - they would've dived them.

Is there any sort of caving organization that would provide maps of wet caves in NZ region ? Any one know someone from there ?

I wouldn't mind to travel for few days, just get in to a never dived cave and do some research about it. !!

Would be cool ayy ??

Head to the top of the South Island, around Takaka, the whole mountains are made from limestone. Pick a river and follow it up the mountain.
Chances are you will find a virgin cave waiting to be explored :D
