Just wondering if anyone knows if there are any OK to good shore diving locations south of Auckland, maybe on the coast between Maraetai and Orere Pt or thereabouts??

Can't really help with that area, I've snorkled it, but about 20 years ago. It was quite murky (the Firth of Thames is hardly blue water) but the rock was hard so should support some interesting life. Actually just about anywhere supports interesting life, it just takes a bit of refocussing to find it.

I'd be surprised if there were many crays in an easily accessible area that close to Auckland. There will be a lot of divers with the same idea. Maybe the West coast?

I have. Not sure why I bothered to be honest. Oh thats right I was looking for a sizeable anchor. I had a pretty good GPS fix on it. I dropped in the water and the vis was one meter at best on the surface. As I decended to the floor at 6 meters the vis dropped to 200mm. I ties off a line to my anchor and did a 360 degree search and then gave up.
OK so it wasnt a shore dive but I doubt the vis will get any better close to the shore. But if you want to do a wreck dive then try off Dudders beach where Maraetai drive turns into North Road. Take a walk around the rocks heading south east and keep an eye out for a buoy a couple of hundred meters out. Its pretty shallow but the wreck doesn't quite break the surface at low tide.

It's soo tiny!

And since you arsed here's a pic

I have used cave line and bound the hose onto the connector stub then wrapped the binding in silicone self adhering tape http://www.rescuetape.co.nz/ (awesome stuff that, you ought be carrying it for repairing a loop hose hole if you get one.)

Such a low profile BOV

Ahem! Topic at hand is shore dives in South Auckland.

Nice BOV by the way. Looks very compact while still seems to get great reviews.

Can you change loop direction? and less importantly can you change LP hose input direction?

Ah well it'll give the mods something to do..

Yes you can change direction and the LP hose input side is optional at time of purchase only.

I doubt you would ever get more than 2 or 3 meters. Its too far in the gulf, too tidal and too silty.
