Typical depths of North Island diving?

Postby AndrewRawlingson » Fri Jul 13, 2012 9:58 am

I know, daft question! If someone asked me what the depth of diving is in SW England, I would say as deep as you like or how long's a piece of string!

Trying to get an idea of depth of typical dive sites rather than specialist technical charters and whether they tend to be square profile dives or multi-level?

Cheers

Really its all over the place.

For shore diving you will be pretty limited with depths but if you have a boat then it really opens up the options.
If you have a smart phone get the navionics charts for NZ. Its one of the only paid apps I have and its great! Not sure if google earth will give you depths but worth a look.

cheers, it seems to be as deep as you like then :)

most of the commonly dived wrecks seem to be in water of 40 metres or less (?).

Yes, thats why they are commonly dived!

The deeper ones are a bit harder to get to.
